The Senior Member Advisor is the first point of contact for members, and is responsible to create and maintain strong member relationships through the delivery of our member advice experience. Service may be related to cash and deposit products; processing financial transactions including daily balancing of cash and transactions; responding to member inquiries; and assisting members in utilizing credit union products and services. The position will also be responsible to analyze customer needs and foster business development through effective communication, product knowledge, promotion, cross-selling and referrals. The incumbent assists the Branch Manager / Assistant Branch Manager in work that supports the achievement of branch sales goals and is responsible for ensuring all elements of the risk management and compliance policies are being followed and implemented.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
1. Sales, Service & Growth
- Conducts a wide range of financial transactions while accurately balancing cash drawers and daily records.
- Manages ATM and night depository deposits; investigate and resolve cash discrepancies.
- Process debit and credit card applications in accordance with credit union policies.
- Delivers exceptional account support by explaining services, addressing inquiries, and assisting with account changes.
- Resolves member concerns and account discrepancies professionally, escalating complex issues as needed.
- Actively promotes and cross-sells credit union products and services based on member needs.
- Stays current with marketing campaigns and actively participate in promotional initiatives.
- Assess individual member financial needs and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Refer complex requests or specialized services to the appropriate internal teams.
- Supports the achievement of branch and individual sales goals.
- Maintains a strong understanding of credit union products, services, and competitive offerings.
- Identify and recommend opportunities for improving service delivery and operational efficiency.
2. Branch Operations
- Maintains a professional, safe, and customer-friendly branch environment that upholds privacy, confidentiality, and strong security standards.
- Monitors branch cash flow; ensure adequate cash levels; maintain joint custody of cash, combinations, negotiable items, and other secured assets.
- Ensures accurate teller operations including cash handling, cheque processing, ATM balancing/reconciliation, encoding, and clearing deposits.
- Oversees cash custody procedures, deposit documentation, general ledger accuracy, and compliance with all security and operational policies.
- Provides transaction overrides within authorized limits and maintain required signing authority.
- Manages ATM operations including balancing, maintenance, cash replenishment, and supplies.
- Coordinates production and distribution of month-end reports.
- Process courier and incoming mail and route to appropriate staff.
- Supports account opening and documentation for various account types under the direction of branch leadership.
3. Risk Management & Compliance
- Adheres to security procedures as they relate to the position.
- Acts as joint custodian on assigned combinations; securely maintains branch and member records.
- Ensures that cash is within the required limits of the credit union policies and procedures.
- Adheres to the Government of Canada Proceeds of Crime, Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Act, ensuring compliance with the policy and procedures.
- Reviews Risk Management policies and procedures (including but not limited to robbery, money laundering, privacy and branch security) on an annual basis.
The ideal candidate will have successfully completed a post-secondary certificate or diploma program (1-2 years) in business plus have 3-5 yrs related industry experience including:
- Advanced communications skills (oral, written, presentation)
- Proficient decision making, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Proficient planning, and workforce management skills
- Proficient ability in sales, promotion and referrals.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office 365 applications
- Proficient knowledge of lending and investment products, practices and procedures.
- Proficient understanding of compliance and privacy requirements
- Working knowledge of financial regulatory requirements
- Working knowledge and understanding of business and operational risk management best practices, and associated control processes and procedures.
This position offers a salary range of $50,150 - $59,000.
