Senior Commercial Credit Manager

Saint John, Moncton or Fredericton, NB 

The Senior Commercial Credit Manager is responsible for assisting in monitoring the risk management and compliance of the credit union’s overall commercial lending portfolio, onboarding new commercial members with large or complex applications, and providing guidance to the Commercial Relationship Managers in their provision of commercial lending services.  The role may also manage a portfolio of assigned commercial borrowing members.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

1. Member Growth & Service

  • Perform comprehensive interviews with both prospective and current commercial members to thoroughly evaluate their financial requirements.
  • Analyze financial statements and assess creditworthiness for new and existing member relationships
  • Oversee BCU’s commercial loan portfolio and offer financial guidance and customized solutions.
  • Promote a full range of commercial products and third-party services through proactive relationship management and coaching
  • Represent the credit union at networking events and community functions
  • Guide and support Commercial Relationship Managers in preparing credit applications and member proposals.

2. Commercial Loan Administration

  • Oversee commercial loan documentation, syndication portfolios, and financial statement reviews.
  • Ensure accurate loan processing, tracking of balances, and compliance with security requirements.
  • Conduct credit investigations and institute appropriate collection actions where necessary.
  • Prepare commitment letters and ensure timely follow-ups with borrowers.

3. Risk Management & Compliance

  • Monitor high-risk accounts, security registrations, and lending portfolios to minimize risk.
  • Assist with special loan handling (e.g., bankruptcies, proposals) and ensure compliance with policies.
  • Maintain and improve risk tracking systems and support regulatory compliance efforts.
  • Recommend action on delinquent accounts and contribute to policy reviews and updates.
  • Aid in the development and implementation of Special loans portfolio.
  • Oversee and manage the audit of member loan files.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in Business Administration plus 10 plus years industry experience with 5-7 years experience in commercial lending including: 

  • Advanced knowledge and practical experience in commercial lending.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and financial assessment skills as well as the ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, and communication skills with proven ability to build and maintain relationships.
  • Advanced knowledge of policies, regulatory compliance and risk management principles as they relate to the financial industry.
