Business Relationship Manager

Commercial Banking

The Business Relationship Manager is responsible for managing a portfolio of commercial borrowing members, overseeing loan administration and driving business growth through strong relationship building, networking and proactively cross-selling credit union products and services.  Additionally, the role ensures compliance by conducting credit investigations, monitoring account performance and initiating collection action when necessary. 

Key responsibilities of the role include:

1. Sales, Service & Growth

  • Manages a portfolio of commercial borrowing members.
  • Authorizes loans, conducts interviews, analyzes financial and credit data, completes loan documentation and applies interest rates and fees.
  • Provides customized financial advice, promotes and cross-sells credit union products.
  • Builds relationships with members and external partners, networks strategically to expand business and identifies opportunities for growth.
  • Monitors accounts to retain and grow business.
  • Keeps up to date with lending products, policies, procedures and applicable regulations.

2. Commercial Loan Administration

  • Monitors and manages respective loan portfolios, follows up with borrowers and reviews accounts regularly.
  • Conducts credit investigations and security inspections.
  • Prepares and releases documentation for paid off loans, reviews loan reports to address delinquencies and security issues and issues commitment letters for loans and other financial products. Prepares all necessary documentation for borrowers and legal representatives.
  • Analyzes delinquent accounts and takes collection actions.

3. Risk Management & Compliance

  • Monitors overdraft activity and high-risk loans to ensure compliance with risk thresholds and minimize potential losses.
  • Identifies and report high-risk accounts through internal Watch List reporting.
  • Recommends loan recovery actions, including demand for repayment and liquidation of security in default situations.
  • Stays up to date with regulatory, industry, and compliance guidelines related to credit and investment practices.

The ideal candidate will have completed a Bachelor’s Degree in business, plus have 1 to 3 years related experience including the following skills: 

  • Advanced attention to detail
  • Advanced knowledge of products and services
  • Proficient knowledge of commercial lending practices and financial principles
  • Proficient knowledge of policies and regulatory environment
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in reading financial statements
  • Proficient in relationship building skills
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Proficient critical thinking, ability to make decisions and exercise sound judgment
  • Proficient in sales, marketing and promotion
