The Branch Manager is responsible for the overall success and growth of the branch through leadership, mentoring and coaching of branch staff in the provision of member service excellence, and the creation of a positive member experience. The role not only controls and monitors branch income and expense accounts but also emphasizes error and loss containment.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
1. Branch Operations
- Oversees overall branch operations, including both deposit and loan portfolios.
- Coordinates deposit and lending activities in line with policies and procedures.
- Resolves complex member issues and complaints escalated by staff.
- Monitors daily branch operations to identify and address issues or successes.
- Drives branch profitability through effective policy administration and strategic planning.
- Ensures competitive loan and deposit pricing while maintaining Credit Union profitability.
- Maintains a professional, secure, and member-friendly branch environment.
- Serves as the primary contact for after-hours issues related to alarms or ATMs.
2. People Leadership
- Leads, coaches, and supports a team of direct reports by setting clear performance expectations, providing ongoing feedback, and addressing performance issues when needed.
- Fosters a positive and high-performing team culture aligned with organizational values and policies.
- Partners with the Branch Manager and HR to identify training needs, support career development, and ensure succession planning and cross-training initiatives.
- Builds strong, collaborative relationships across departments and branches to promote teamwork and organizational effectiveness.
- Supports staff by addressing and resolving escalated employee concerns and workplace issues.
3. Sales, Service & Branch Growth
- Leads membership growth, business development, and sales goals by mentoring and coaching staff in proactive member service.
- Builds and maintains industry, community, and credit union system partnerships and networks.
- Drives branch growth by supporting marketing plans and creating a sales- and service-focused team culture.
- Coaches staff on differentiating credit union products from competitors and effectively communicating those differences to members.
- Manages and monitors the branch loan portfolio to meet or exceed growth targets set by the Credit Union.
- Ensures the loan portfolio is well-managed, with acceptable risk and delinquency levels.
- Provides support and member service related to loan and deposit products for current and prospective members.
- Reviews, adjudicates, and approves loans exceeding Financial Service Officers’ (FSO) lending limits.
The ideal candidate will have completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration plus have 6-9
years industry experience and 3-5 years supervisory experience including:
- Strong communication, critical thinking, and sound decision-making abilities
- Skilled in financial analysis, risk evaluation, and regulatory compliance
- Effective leader with team-building, coaching, and workforce management skills
- Proven abilities in sales, relationship building, and promoting financial products
- Knowledgeable in lending, investments, privacy, and risk management practices
