The Banking Advisor is responsible for creating and maintaining strong member relationships through the delivery of our member advice experience. Service may be related to cash and deposit products; processing financial transactions including daily balancing of cash and transactions; responding to member inquiries; proactively selling credit union products and fostering business development as well as assisting members in utilizing credit union products and services. The role also provides lending, deposit and account opening services to current and prospective members, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, policies and procedures. 

 

 

Key responsibilities of the role include:

 

1. Sales, Service and Growth

  • Delivers day-to-day member service, processes transactions accurately, balances daily cash, and resolves routine inquiries or issues.
  • Supports members with card services, account questions, and banking needs, escalating complex matters when appropriate.
  • Conducts member interviews to understand lending and investment needs; gathers financial information and completes credit assessments.
  • Prepares and processes loan and mortgage applications, verifies creditworthiness, and approves applications within assigned limits while ensuring documentation meets policy and regulatory standards.
  • Provides advice on deposit, investment, and debt‑consolidation options, referring to specialists as needed.
  • Identifies member needs and recommends appropriate products and services; participates in sales campaigns and contributes to branch sales goals.
  • Maintains strong knowledge of credit union products, services, and competitor offerings; seeks referrals and supports business development efforts.
  • Reviews lending reports to identify opportunities and collaborates with colleagues on credit recommendations and decisions.

 

2. Risk Management and Compliance

  • Monitors overdraft activity and enforces account limits to minimize financial risk and losses.
  • Reviews and adheres to risk management policies and security procedures, including privacy, robbery, money laundering, and branch safety.
  • Shares credit information with other institutions in compliance with privacy regulations.
  • Stays updated on relevant regulatory, industry, investment, and lending guidelines.
  • Acts as joint custodian for assigned combinations and securely maintains branch and member records.

 

The ideal candidate will have successfully completed a post-secondary certificate or diploma in Business Administration

plus 1-3 years industry experience including:

 

  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office 365 applications
  • Proficient in Financial Analysis & Risk
  • Proficient in relationship building skills
  • Proficient critical thinking, ability to make decisions and exercise sound judgment
  • Proficient in using attention to detail
  • Proficient knowledge of lending and investment products and services
  • Proficient knowledge of policies and regulatory environment
  • Working knowledge of compliance and privacy requirements
  • Working knowledge of financial regulatory requirements
  • Working knowledge of sales, promotion and referrals
  • Working knowledge of lending practices and financial principles

 

This position has an annual salary in the range of $50,150 - $59,000.
